I have the pleasure to present you an extraordinary lady: Bozena Mainas!

Als ich Dich das erste Mal sah, dachte ich, diese Dame ist eine Mischung aus Pin-up und It-Girl. Um so erstaunter war ich dann, als ich mit Dir sprach und erfuhr, dass Du eine kleine Tierfarm besitzt und auch noch Mutter von 4 Kindern bist. Wie schaffst Du das?

When I first saw you, I thought this lady was a mix of pin-up and it-girl. So I was all the more astonished when I spoke to you and learned that you own a small animal farm and are also the mother of 4 children. How do you do that?

Man muss es schaffen. Ich habe mir das so gewünscht und wenn man Kinder hat, muss man sich kümmern, erst recht, wenn man alleinstehend ist. Das mit den Tieren hat sich vom Hobby zum Beruf entwickelt.

You have to do it. I wanted it that way and having children you have to look after them, especially when you are single. The story with animals has developed from a hobby into a job.

Du hast einen Bio-Bauernhof, ist das richtig?

You have an organic farm, is that right?

Es ist ein Straußenhof. Erst ab einer Anzahl von hundert Tieren darf man sich als Farm bezeichnen. Zunächst hatte ich Schafe, Ziegen, also eigentlich erst mal nur für die Familie und Nachbarn als Streichelzoo. Drei Jahre lang überlegte ich, wie es weitergehen sollte, denn schließlich muss ich ja auch an das Geldverdienen denken, zumal ich alles alleine finanziere. Es gibt keinerlei Spenden oder Zuwendungen. Aber die Tiere gaben mir so viel Kraft und waren für mich der perfekte Ausgleich, dass ich das Konzept professionalisiert habe.

It’s an ostrich farm. You can only call yourself a farm if the number of animals exceeds one hundred. At first I had sheep and goats, so actually only for the family and neighbors as a petting zoo. For three years I thought about how to proceed, because after all I have to think about making money, especially since I finance everything myself. There are no donations. But the animals gave me so much strength and were the perfect balance for me that I professionalized the concept.

Das bedeutet, Du verdienst Geld mit Bioprodukten?

Does that mean you earn money with organic products?

Nicht ausschließlich, noch nicht. Ich arbeite als Make-up Artistin und gelegentlich als Model. Mein Wunsch ist aber, dass der Hof sich weiterentwickelt. Ursprünglich hatte ich den Hof mit meinem Ex-Mann gemeinsam aufbauen wollen. Als er uns verließ, war es nicht sicher, ob ich den Hof würde halten können. Ich hatte jedoch schon so viel Schweiß und Tränen investiert, dass ich mich entschied, weiter zu machen. Ich habe jetzt noch Land und ein Gehöft hinzugekauft und möchte ab Sommer Urlaub auf dem Bauernhof anbieten. Wir haben wirklich sehr zahme Tiere, mit denen man kuscheln kann. Es ist vorher allerdings noch einiges zu renovieren. Es soll eine Sauna eingebaut werden und wir haben dann ungefähr 6 Zimmer anzubieten. Genau weiß ich das, wenn alles fertig ist. Zusätzlich möchte ich einen kleinen Hofladen ins Leben rufen, in dem man alle Produkte des Hofes kaufen kann.

Not exclusively, not yet. I work as a make-up artist and occasionally as a model. But my wish is that the farm continues to develop. Originally, I wanted to build the farm together with my ex-husband. When he left us it was not certain that I would be able to hold court. However, I had already invested so much sweat and tears that I decided to continue. I have now bought land and a homestead and would like to offer a vacation on the farm from the summer. We have really tame animals to cuddle with. However, there is still a lot to renovate beforehand. A sauna is to be built in and we will then have about 6 rooms to offer. I will know exactly when everything is ready. I would also like to start a small farm shop where you can buy all of the farm’s products.

Wie alt sind Deine Kinder?

How old are your children?

Die Zwillinge sind 14, die Kleine ist 10 und der Älteste ist 24 Jahre alt.

The twins are 14, the little one is 10 and the oldest is 24 years old.

Dann sind sie aus dem gröbsten heraus, wie man so schön sagt. Haben sie die Leidenschaft für Tiere und Landleben geerbt?

Then they are out of the woods, as the saying goes. Have they inherited the passion for animals and country life?

Am Anfang war das so, das hat sich aber verändert. Die Zwillinge pubertieren und haben andere Interessen.

It was like that in the beginning, but that has changed. The twins go through puberty and have other interests.

Wie begegnen Dir die Leute aus Deinem ländlichen Umfeld und aus dem Dorf? Du bist ja eher atypisch und sehr auffallend.

How do people react from your rural surroundings and from the village? You are rather atypical and very noticeable.

Im Sommer ist es bei uns immer voll. Die Familien kommen zu den Tieren, machen Picknick und fühlen sich wohl. Man muss etwas dafür tun, dass man akzeptiert wird, besonders als Ausländerin. Ich bin auf die Leute zugegangen und habe mit ihnen gesprochen.

It’s always full here in summer. The families come to the animals, have a picnic and feel good. You have to do something to be accepted, especially as a foreigner. I went up to people and talked to them.

Hast Du dort auch ein Kosmetikstudio?

Do you also have a cosmetic studio there?

Das hatte ich, aber ich musste es verkaufen, als mein Mann wegging. Jetzt will ich das wieder neu aufbauen, sobald der neue Hof bezogen wird. Dann möchte ich auch eigene kosmetische Bio-Produkte entwickeln.

I did, but had to sell it when my husband left. Now I want to rebuild it as soon as I move into the new farm. Then I would also like to develop my own cosmetic organic products.

Du bist wirklich eine Powerfrau und kannst sehr stolz auf Dich sein, auch wenn nicht immer alles einfach war. Mich interessiert brennend, wie Du an Harald Glööckler gekommen bist.

You are really a power woman and you can be very proud of yourself, even if everything wasn’t always easy. I’m really interested in how you got to know Harald Glööckler.

Ich habe seine Nägel modelliert und so lernten wir uns kennen. Es war ein Zufall. Er kam nach Berlin und hatte niemanden, der Gel-Nägel machen konnte. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt war er in einer Beauty-Klinik im Grunewald, alles war da, aber niemand für die Nägel. Eine Freundin rief mich an und so kam eines zum anderen. Mittlerweile sind wir befreundet und er hat mich inspiriert, über eine eigene Kollektion nachzudenken. Aber das bleibt ein Zukunftsmodell für die Zukunft. Der Hof und die Kinder brauchen Zeit. Meine Idee ist es, Mode aus Straußenfedern zu machen und irgendwann werde ich das machen können. Meine Zukunft sehe ich als eine Kombination aus Biohof und Modedesign – ich will beides weil ich ohne beides nicht sein kann.

I modeled his nails and that’s how we met. It was a coincidence. He came to Berlin and had no one who could do gel nails. At that time he was in a beauty clinic in Grunewald, everything was there, but no one for the nails. A friend called me and one thing led to another. We are now friends and he inspired me to think about an own collection. But that remains a future model for later. The farm and the children need time. My idea is to make fashion out of ostrich feathers and at some point I’ll be able to do that. I see my future as a combination of organic farm and fashion design – I want both because I can’t be without both.
